Researchers have developed a computer algorithm that imitates a fundamental characteristic of human intelligence ?- the ability to distinguish patterns
within large amounts of data, text, or images. The program, called an algorithm for non-negative matrix factorization, could one day lead to faster and more accurate video conferencing, data storage and transmission, and web searches, scientists said.
