Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University argue that the ongoing arms-race between spammers and CAPTCHA (scrambled letters that separate real online users from software bots) developers can only benefit research into artificial intelligence and character recognition. They suggest taking advantage of the resources of spammers by developing future CAPTCHAs by picking problems that need solving.
